Actor Dhanush has finally spoken out about the recent controversy around ‘Raanjhanaa’, a film that holds a special place in his career. The 2013 romantic drama, which made him a household name in Hindi cinema, is now in the spotlight again, but for all the wrong reasons.

Recently, a new version of ‘Raanjhanaa’ was released online. This version uses artificial intelligence (AI) to change the original ending of the film. The move has angered fans, critics, and now even the film’s lead star.

On Sunday evening, Dhanush posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), sharing his disappointment. He said he was “completely disturbed” by the AI-modified version.

“This alternative ending has stripped the film of its soul,” he wrote. “The concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection. This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago.”

Dhanush also spoke about the larger issue of using AI in films without the creator’s permission. He warned that such technology could harm the future of storytelling and cinema. “It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. I sincerely hope that stricter regulations are put in place to prevent such practices in the future,” he added.

Dhanush’s reaction follows a strong statement from the film’s director, Aanand L Rai. The filmmaker shared his thoughts on Instagram, clearly upset that someone had changed the original work. “The idea that our work can be taken and modified by a machine, then dressed up as innovation, is deeply disrespectful,” he wrote. “To cloak a film’s emotional legacy in a synthetic cape without consent is not a creative act. It’s an abject betrayal of everything we built.”

‘Raanjhanaa’, released in 2013, was a unique love story that struck a chord with many. Dhanush played ‘Kundan’, a character whose tragic love story touched millions. Sonam Kapoor played the female lead, while Abhay Deol, Swara Bhasker, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub were also part of the cast.

Over the years, the film became a fan-favourite and earned the status of a cult classic. Its music, performances, and powerful story are still remembered fondly.
